Swan Tuscany Challenge, that's a wrap!

by Yacht Club Isole di Toscana 30 May 2021 07:30 BST

A week of great sailing comes to an end at the Marina di Scarlino, which saw the most famous sailors in Europe battle it out to conquer the first stage of the coveted The Nations Trophy circuit. With 23 teams competing, representing ten nations, divided between the two best performing classes of the Finnish shipyard, the Gulf of Follonica was colored from Tuesday to Saturday, seeing the dispute of eleven races.

The weather conditions were extraordinarily favorable and allowed the Race Committee, directed by Ariane Mainemare and Carlo Giuliano Tosi to follow a tight schedule, thus allowing the values in the race to emerge.

The battle for leadership was very tough in both fleets, with the names of the event's winners being revealed only with the last downwind.

After a long battle, the Cuordileone team, led by Leonardo Ferragamo, with Manu Weiller as tactician, won among the ClubSwan 50s. Place of honor for the reigning world champion, Marcus Brennecke (Markus Wieser calling tactics). In third place, in progression during the week, the team of the Swiss Stefan Heidenreich, ONEGroup, who fielded the multi-medalist Jochen Schuemann at the tactics.

The suspense was not lacking in the ClubSwan 36, where Gspot, the Monegasque Giangi Serena di Lapigio and the Tuscan Andrea Lacorte (aboard Vitamina) fought each other. The Vitamina team did better, while on the lowest step of the podium the Far Star team, recently joined ClubSwan 36, after leaving ClubSwan 42.

A crew to be marked closely for future events, the rookie Fra Martina, who after touching the water for the first time on Saturday 22 May, reported three first partials. The brothers Edoardo and Vanni Pavesio, returning from experiences on different one design classes, line up on the tactics Checco Bruni and on the mainsail Rufo Bressani.

The sporting event was organized by the Yacht Club Isole di Toscana, with the support of ClubSwan Racing, Marina di Scarlino and Nautor's Swan Global Service Scarlino.

Alongside the Yacht Club Isole di Toscana, as for years, the Rigoni di Asiago brand, with which the Yacht Club shares the values of environmental sensitivity and the pursuit of excellence.
