From April 26 to May 2, the Semaine Olympique Française Toulon Provence Méditerranée 2021 will be virtual. As in 2020, the organising committee will be hosting a virtual Semaine Olympique Française on the Virtual Regatta Inshore game platform. The great novelty of this new virtual edition is that the players will be navigating a completely new body of water - the bay of Hyères in the Toulon Provence Méditerranée area.

A new body of water

For the first time on Virtual Regatta Inshore, competitors will explore and race in the bay of Hyères, considered by some to be the "most beautiful body of water in the world". It is the fourth body of water in France to be modelled on Virtual Regatta Inshore, and the virtual Semaine Olympique Française Toulon Provence Méditerranée will allow competitors to take the start line and race on this exceptional body of water. They will get a taste of what makes "La SOF" such a hit with Olympic sailors all over the whole world.

A competition from April 26 to May 2

In Laser, 49er and Nacra17, competitors in the virtual Semaine Olympique Française Toulon Provence Méditerranée will compete against each other on different Olympic class boats throughout the week.

Programme:

  • Monday April 26 and Tuesday April 27: Laser training
  • Wednesday April 28 and Thursday April 29: Qualification 1 in 49er (blue event in the e-sailing world championship): the top 10 will qualify for the final
  • Friday April 30 and Saturday May 1: Qualification 2 in Nacra17 (blue event of the e-sailing world championship): the "other" top 10 will also qualify for the final
  • Sunday May 2 at 21:00: Final at 20:00
The winner and winners of qualification 1 and 2 will qualify directly for the play-offs of the 2021 e-sailing world championship.

There is more information on the programme on the sof.ffvoile.fr website

The athletes behind the screens

A special ranking will reward those athletes who registered for SOF 2021 in its initial format and who participate in the virtual version. This should give players the opportunity to face, from behind their screens, Olympic athletes and possibly even future medallists at the Olympic Games in Tokyo.

The top 5 in this special ranking will be offered automatic registration for the next SOF in 2022.
