Nominated to represent Team Canada at the 2020 Olympic Games in Japan this summer, 2016 Olympian Tom Ramshaw will continue to prepare for Tokyo by taking part in the Finn European Championships in Vilamoura, Portugal, starting Monday.
It will be Tom Ramshaw's first major competition since the 2020 European Finn Championships, held in September of 2020 in Gdynia, Poland. The 2020 Finn Gold Cup (or World Championships) was cancelled due to the pandemic.
"It will be a great chance to measure up against all the top guys and see what needs to be improved upon leading into the final months of preparation for the Olympic Games," said Tom Ramshaw, who took the eighth spot at the 2019 Finn World Championships in Australia. "I really look forward to getting back to racing after doing so much training all winter."
More than 50 sailors representing around 30 countries from all around the world will take part in this competition, one of the few that have been able to go ahead over the past year in spite of the circumstances. They will be able to measure themselves against some of the best sailors in the world, including 2019 World Championship silver and bronze medalists Nicholas Heiner of the Netherlands and Zsombar Berecz of Hungary.
Tom Ramshaw is part of the 9-member team that has been nominated to represent Canada in sailing at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, slated for July 23rd to August 8th, 2021.
