Lindisfarne Sailing Club Commodore John Mills has put out a call to all Tasmanian Sabre owners to join the 30 Boat Challenge this Sunday at the Lindisfarne Sailing Club.

The family-based club offers learn to sail programs, and a mixed fleet including Pacers and trailer sailors, but considers the Sabre Class the jewel in the Club's sailing crown and has all hands on deck for what will be a huge celebration of the Class.

"We want to celebrate a summer of brilliant weather, high quality racing and great camaraderie by setting a record of 30 boats on the start line for our final race on Sunday. We know that there are at least 30 Sabres registered with our Club, and there are more across the State and we want them all to come out and sail together. The Sabres, when combined with the rest of our Sunday fleet, will make for a spectacular event," said Mills.

The Sabre is one of Australia's most popular single-handed racing dinghies with Lindisfarne boasting the largest fleet in Tasmania. The Club is home to the current Tasmanian Sabre Champion, Stewart Gray, while Tasmanian Lauren Keil is the current national women's champion. Gray enjoys the Class culture, the economical aspect of the Sabre and sailing with his mates. "It's a very relaxed yet competitive environment and it's a great boat I can tinker with, update and upgrade for a very reasonable cost," said Gray.

The Sabre appeals to a wide base from sailing beginners to youngsters transitioning out of Sabots, hot-shot dinghy sailors and people returning to sailing. The Club is particularly keen to encourage female sailors to give Sabres a try and will have several boats available for female skippers who will be able to sail alongside some of the best Sabre sailors in the state.

Sailors will compete for on and off-the-water prizes and will share a free pizza feast and drinks after sailing. To join the 30 Boat Challenge, go to www.facebook.com/events/712432272710402

The 30 Boat Challenge is sponsored by LJ Hooker Pinnacle Property, Elevate Wealth Solutions, Doyle Sails Tasmania and North Sails/42 South Marine.
