First Iguana Commuter Yacht Tender powered by 300hp diesel outboard

by Cox Powertrain 17 Feb 2021 10:18 GMT

British diesel outboard specialist, Cox Powertrain, has been shipping the CXO300 300hp diesel outboard engine across the globe to its distributor network since production began in May 2020. Now, eight months on, the French amphibious boat builder, Iguana Yachts, has successfully commissioned its first Cox diesel-powered vessel, which will be used as a tender to the 142m superyacht, NORD.

Based in Normandy, France, Iguana Yachts is globally renowned for building luxury all-terrain amphibious vessels. The craft are traditionally developed for use as luxury yacht tenders and for waterfront properties and private islands where access can be difficult due to tidal and other restrictions.

The Commuter is the most advanced model developed by Iguana. It delivers a smooth and dry experience and can be safely and easily boarded on virtually any terrain. Fitted with a single installation CXO300, the Iguana Commuter combines superior technology, economy, and ecology. This first CXO300 diesel installation by Iguana is seen as something of a milestone for the recreational marine industry and a positive move towards switching to diesel outboard technology.

This latest craft from Iguana will primarily be used as a tender to the NORD, an impressive 142m superyacht built by Lürssen and designed by Nuvolari Lenard. Having a diesel-powered tender was particularly attractive to the customer as it means they will only need to carry single fuel on the mothership, making it safer when travelling overseas and more efficient due to reduced fuel consumption and the overall cost of ownership benefits with running a diesel outboard.

Cox Powertrain's French distributor, Fenwick, who supplied the outboard to Iguana said, "This is the first time in France that a recreational boat has been fitted with a 300hp diesel outboard engine and it has been a privilege to be part of this project. Iguana Yachts are known for their avant-garde boat designs and Cox are innovators in the diesel engine market, so this pairing is great to see. It is a fantastic step forward for the marine industry, especially in France!"
