420 Class Sailing Calendar 2021

by GBR 420 class 31 Dec 2020 18:00 GMT

We are looking forward to a busy 2021. We have a great line-up of events planned. The feedback from sailors was clear: more racing, more sea venues, more waves to play with, and more variety.

Hopefully we have delivered on that and also ensured a geographical spread of locations to be as inclusive as possible. Of course, we have to be mindful of ongoing coronavirus restrictions and so the events calendar is subject to change - but there is a plan in place.

The calendar is underpinned by training to enable sailors to transition effectively from Junior Classes. The class is full of recent graduates from the Topper, Tera, Optimist, Fevas, Mirror and Cadet and there is an active market in high quality second-hand boats

The 420 British Nationals will be held at Plas Heli in Pwllheli, the RYA Youth Nationals take place in Plymouth, and Italy will host the World Championships in San Remo in July as well as the Junior European Championships in Formia in August.

We will run two 420 class event series across the year: Championship events which are also used as selectors for attendance at the Worlds, Europeans and for Youth Squads; Grand Prix events offering the chance to sail in different venues and conditions.

The Team Selection Policy for international events and RYA Youth Squad Selection Policy will be confirmed in the next few weeks and we will keep everyone updated as soon as we can.

Best wishes for 2021. It is going to be better!

John
