The German skipper had been holding on to 4th place for some days with a few challenges for this spot. As the sun rose on the 47th day of the race, Boris Herrmann had clawed his way up into a podium position in third. With Seaexplorer - Yacht Club de Monaco reaching 17 knots through the night, Boris hopes to hold the lead on the pack behind him for as long as possible.
The sailor was also awarded some Christmas treats, receiving presents from his team, friends and family in the form of a podcast created by them all. Wearing his Christmas hat and festive jumper Boris explained his day and showed us Jean Le Cam some 1.5 nm in the distance behind him.
Boris commented: "Amazing. Third on the tracker and halfway around. I would never have dreamt of that! A very nice Christmas present for all of us, and especially to the many who have put so much tremendous effort into this project. Cheers to you all and a big thank you to the Malizia Seaexplorer family."
The race is far from over with over 40% still left to sail but reaching this milestone is a great achievement.
