2020 Northern 29er Series Championship and RYA Scotland 29er Christmas Regatta

by Orri & Stuart, GBR 1324 23 Dec 2020 16:26 GMT 20 December 2020

It was a mild day with 10 to 15 knots of wind at Dalgety Bay Sailing Club. Twelve Northern 29er sailors from as far away as Derwent Water and the Tay competed.

After an 11:00 am WhatsApp introduction and brief from Race Officer Matt Toynbee and his helpers Kate and Ben, sailors launched from the slip and headed out to the start line. Racing started promptly at 11:15. There was 6 two beat windward-leeward races run. As the wind increased the number of sailors decreased because of the conditions or due to gear failure.

A special mention to Ben Urquhart and Jaimie McKeating who managed to get a cartoon shaped hole in their mainsail. Congratulations to Danny and Tom for winning the event and the Northern series trophy with an impressive set of results. Ed and David, our Northern southerners who came second. Orri (Elf) and Stuart (Santa) claimed third spot and winners of the fancy dress competition with a special mention to Robbie and Fergus who suited up nicely. 4th spot to Cat and Evie and winning first girls, by a whisker from Morven and Susie.

Racing wrapped up sharply before the support parents turned into ice sculptures with a socially distanced prize-giving with a mixture of prizes from the RYA and Ovington.

Thanks to all involved in the organisation of the event and have a happy Christmas and see you all in the New Year.
