Members of Scarborough Yacht Club have rallied round to raise £240 to support the work of Saint Catherine's.
The Yacht Club has a long-standing relationship with the hospice, with a number of its members having received end-of-life care from Saint Catherine's over the years.
With Scarborough Yacht Club celebrating its 125th year in 2020, Yacht Club members Clive Murray, Simon Bull, and Helen Baker came up with the idea to create an attractive 125th Anniversary T-shirt, selling it to club members and donating the proceeds to Saint Catherine's.
The T-shirts sold out quickly early in 2020, although a planned rerun got derailed by the coronavirus pandemic. However, members raised £240, and handed it over to the hospice at a small ceremony at Scarborough Yacht Club.
In the pictures are Susan Stephenson, Communications and Marketing Manager for the hospice, Clive Murray, co-owner and skipper of sailing vessel My Gal and Honorary Secretary of the Yacht Club (now Commodore), along with Simon Bull, First Mate and other My Gal co-owner. There is also a close-up of the popular T-shirt design that helped propel sales.
We would like to thank Clive, Simon, and in particular Helen Baker and her drive for getting this project from idea to result, and thank Susan from Saint Catherine's for her time this morning.
Susan said: "We would like to thank the members at Scarborough Yacht Club for their kind donation and for thinking of us in their special 125th anniversary year. The funds will go towards providing care, free of charge, for patients and loved ones."
It delighted Scarborough Yacht Club members to take part in this initiative, and we will look forward to an early opportunity to repeat the initiative.
