1-3 October 2020
The final day begun with a storm and ended with three races to close Grand Prix 3.1 of the Persico 69F Cup. We say goodbye to Lake Garda after three months of being honoured guests at Circolo Vela Gargano and Fraglia Vela Malcesine.
The stage victory goes to the eclectic Roberto Lacorte on FlyingNikka 47, today third, second and first in an amazing crescendo: three races added to the other seven of Thursday. The owner, entrepreneur, racing driver Lacorte, who (as he says) is not far away from twice as old as the components of team Young Azzurra, assisted by Lorenzo Bressani and Enrico Zennaro, has never given up, and got off his FlyingNikka 47 smiling and thanked everyone because, "here we are learning so much about foiling, and these are very useful skills for our sport's future."
The quality required of the sailors is the right mix between control and focus: three of the five teams, FlyingNikka 47, Young Azzurra and Fantastica 2, went on the water this morning with half a point between them, and the three race results were crucial to the result of this stage, and of the circuit.
Conditions with wind blowing in different intensity and direction have made the skill of staying as much as possible on the foils crucial. The first three teams were ready to push from the beginning, so much so that in the first race they all got an OCS and were penalized. The final ranking rewards FlyingNikka 47, confirms the great performance of Young Azzurra, and grants third place for Nico Celon on Fantastica 2. Fourth place went to FlyingNikka 74 and fifth to the new entry SV Marmolada.
For the Persico 69F fleet it's time to pack up: three boats and a big part of the organizers are leaving for Trieste, where the Persico 69Fs will take part in the Barcolana FUN by Siram Veolia from October 7th to October 10th. Team 69F will participate in the Barcolana on Portopiccolo Prosecco DOC, a Maxi of 90 feet that will have Nico Celon at the wheel: "we will go a bit slower, there," jokes the Garda sailor.
The next stage of the circuit will be in November, in Porto Cervo, guests of Yacht Club Costa Smeralda: the Persico 69F will taste salty water, which will challenge everyone with the waves. "We will start training immediately," say the hosts of YCCS, the guys of Young Azzurra, "it will be a whole new story and we will be waiting for you." The challenge is launched, while the organizers already have big projects for 2021. Stay tuned!
