GPS WASZP Pro-Am Challenge © waszp.com

WASZP Sailors it is time to start those GPS session logs! We have some of SailGP's finest sailors ready to jump in the WASZP and go head to head with our very own WASZP community.

With a winner take all prize of 2x spectator tickets to the SailGP of your choice and for the winner a ride on an F50 catamaran this is the most exciting event for 2020!

The GPS Platform is super user friendly and is going to be a major asset for the class moving forward. When we can get back to hosting major international events right down to local community club events, it will provide a new and engaging aspect to WASZP racing.

The beauty of this initiative by WASZP is that sailors from every corner of the globe can race against each other and you can continue to compare yourself against the best. This is using the best aspects from windsurf/kitesurf and integrating it into the more traditional racing/event formats. As always WASZP dares to be different and provide new and exciting opportunities for our sailors.

The event window is now open and will run until the 12th of October. There are plenty of opportunities to get out and log your session. We have two events happening over the weekend in Foiling Week and WASZP Cup Norway, we hope that the sailors can get out and log some sessions over those events as well. Because of the nature of the event you are not scored just on your fastest speed. You are scored on three categories:

  • Average top speed
  • Best 250m run
  • Total distance sailed in 1/2 an hour (calculated off your average 1/2 hour speed.)

The scoring of the event will be like a normal sailing event with the score being totalled over the 3 disciplines. See below table for reference.

What this means is that even if you don't feel like you have scored the fastest speed, still make sure you log your track as you may score higher in the other 2 categories than the person with the fastest average speed. Every session you do, make sure you upload it as you never know how you are comparing to the others untill it is uploaded.

How to log my track

Watch the above video on how to create an account.

Watch the above video on how to subscribe to the WASZP Pro-Am event.

How does it work?

WASZP GPS Notice of Race

  • You will need access to a WASZP in standard one-design racing configuration and a GPS. Our platform supports most GPS devices and is very easy to use. You just upload your track and the platform does the rest.

  • You will need to upload your file as one of the following .sbn .sbp .fit .ubx .oao or .gpx - Most of your GPS devices should be able to be converted to a GPX file for use, you can convert most GPS specific files here alternatively you can send your track to and we can upload it for you provided you **CREATED AN ACCOUNT** on the platform. Please make sure you store and label your session so we can ask for verification if required.

  • Make sure you take a photo of you, your WASZP and your GPS device and date them if you are required to provide 2nd verification of your session. Ideally someone else is also there to verify, however if not a photo will suffice. Our platform also has an in-built verification system, so if you think you can get away with a false session, you will be found out!

When you sign up, you will need to write in the 'remarks' section whether you are an amateur or a professional sailor. A professional sailor is constituted if you are contracted to any of the major professional circuits or have sailed on any of the professional circuits in 2020 (to be specified).

The first placed amateur WASZP sailor in the competition will win an amazing prize.

Prize

2x Spectator tickets to the SailGP event of your choice and a ride on an F50!

This truly is one of the best prizes in sailing and you can only get this sort of access in the WASZP Class, we are super proud to be partnered with SailGP and assisting them on their road to re-defining the sport!
