The 2020 RS Aero UK Nationals has started in Eastbourne with 101 RS Aeros enjoying fresh breezes and wonderful waves to surf at Eastbourne.
Eastbourne is reportedly the most sunny town in the UK according the Met and Friday did not disappoint! Wind, waves and sun provided fantastic racing. Two fifty boat fleets in the RS Aero 5s and RS Aero 7s gave busy testing starts after little chance to practice in an extraordinary 2020. With some good breeze in the forecast the RS Aero 9 fleet were glad of their option to down size on this occasion, joining the RS Aero 7s for some excellent big fleet racing in the good breezes.
There were big smiles across the dinghy park as the fleet returned ashore with everyone delighted to have had the chance of some championship racing. Huge thanks and congratulations must go the Eastbourne Sovereign Sailing Club, a small club with a big team of passionate volunteers. They have worked diligently over recent months to produce an event plan with a social distanced and hygienic environment to enable the Champs to go ahead within current restrictions.
Another breezy couple of days are coming up. Stay tuned to check out the movers and shakers after a few rusty racers start to step into their stride.
