In light of the significant increase in the infection curve due to several outbreaks in the Costa Smeralda area and in Porto Cervo in particular, in order to protect the health of the staff, visitors to the facilities, and sailors, the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda has decided to cancel the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup and the Rolex Swan Cup.

The decision has been taken with the support of its long term partner Rolex, the International Maxi Association, and the Nautor's Swan shipyard.

The YCCS had employed all of its resources, and done everything within its power to make holding the traditional September regattas feasible, while ensuring maximum safety for all employees, partners, visitors and sailors.

It is with this same sense of responsibility that the YCCS has had to accept that the complex public health situation in the area has rendered it objectively impossible for these events to take place at the current time.

Commodore Michael Illbruck and Sports Director Edoardo Recchi commented: "We are deeply sorry to have been forced to make this difficult decision, but since the outset of the pandemic our priority has been the health and safety of our staff, members and visiting sailors. We hope that all the owners and crew will understand this choice - one that we never would have wanted to make - which is aimed at safeguarding everyone's wellbeing. We will work even more intensively on the next editions of these events to try to compensate for them not taking place this year."

The facilities at the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda will remain open and the evolution of the epidemic situation will determine whether or not the next scheduled events will take place.

Information on any developments regarding the activities of the YCCS in relation to the Covid-19 crisis will be published in the dedicated section of the website.
