Perfect summer conditions, with a warm Ora wind well spread at around 8 knots of intensity, dictated the rhythm of the first day of regattas of the 38th edition of the Garda Optimist Meeting, for this year exceptionally organized in August, to replace the traditional Easter weekend.

Three regattas completed today by all fleets, divided into a total of four batteries between Juniors and the younger Cadets, who shared without hindrance the race course positioned thanks to seven electric marks controlled via GPS and produced by the Focchi company, already tested with satisfaction during the season in all the regattas held on North Lake Garda.

In the Juniores division, Santiago Sesto Cosby (7-2-1), already winner of yesterday's Country Cup, holds the reins of the fleet, on the equals with the Greek Elizabeth Anna Winters (4-3-3), in turn leader of the female ranking. Third place for Erik Scheidt (9-1-2), already winner of the Garda Optimist Meeting in 2019 among the Cadets. Two Italian girls, Giulia Bartolozzi and Lisa Vucetti, close the top-five.

Among the younger but no less competitive cadets, Mattia Benamati (4-1-2) from Fraglia Vela Malcesine leads the ranking followed by the Swiss Edward Hirsch (5-2- 1) and from the Greek Filippos Portosalte (15-6-3). The Italians Artur Brighenti and Pietro Gainelli close the top-five, while Bianca Marchesini, sixth overall, leads the women's ranking.

The regattas will resume tomorrow at 13.00: on the basis of the ranking that will be formed, the fleet will be divided into the Gold and Silver categories, which on Saturday and Sunday will compete for the finals of the 38th Garda Optimist Meeting.
