The spotlight is on for the second event of the Melges World League 2020 season which, over the weekend, will crown the "King of Tuscany" crew at Marina di Scarlino.

The Melges 20 fleet, which was already engaged at the beginning of the month in the inaugural event in Malcesine, was the first to go into the water, starting from today, and tomorrow will be reached by a large representation of Melges 14 that in Scarlino will have their seasonal debut, after a 2019 in strong growth.

The expectations regarding the high competitiveness of the regattas of Scarlino have not been ignored: the return to the fleet of some crews who over time have written the history of this dynamic one-design, such as Brontolo by Filippo Pacinotti, European Champion in charge, the Russian crew of Igor Rytov, Russian Bogatyrs, Vladimir Prosikhin's Nika just to name a few, has brought tight racing in the fleet, with constant upheavals in the rankings since the very first day.

And in fact, at the end of day 1, the ranking is very short and more open than ever: the top seven crews in the ranking are grouped in a margin of only seven points, with Nika leading the pack with 12 points, followed by Brontolo just one length behind, in turn chased by Siderval by Marco Giannini, already winner of the event of Malcesine in July. The top five is closed by Russian Bogatyrs with 16 points and Fremito d'Arja, 17.

Among the new entries, the debut is excellent for Benedetta Iovane with her B-Lex, which inaugurates the series with a third place, while Vittorio di Giacomo aboard Tur..tle, at the first absolute experience in Melges 20, starts to get in confidence with the fleet.

Regattas will resume tomorrow at 12.00.

Rankings are posted on the virtual notice board here.
