Melges 32 World League in Malcesine - Day 2

by Melges World League 10 Jul 2020 21:37 BST 9-11 July 2020

It has been another day of tight racing in Malcesine for the Melges 32 fleet: between match-race-style duels, photo finishes and continuous changes in the ranking, today has been an exciting day of sailing.

Best boat of the day is Martin Reintjes' Caipirinha (1-2-4 the results of today, 10 points in total considering one discard) who, thanks to the solid results, gains the top of the ranking by climbing over La Pericolosa (2-5-1, 10 pt.) by Christian Schwoerer, second on equal points with Reintjes' boat.

At the end of the regattas, Schwoerer commented: "What a great return here in Malcesine, after the months of lockdown, returning to racing on the Melges 32 was what I awaited most. And there could be no better return: the fleet is in great shape, the regattas are all extremely competitive and balanced. Tomorrow we can complete two more regattas, starting early in the morning with Peler wind. Malcesine is an excellent warm up to better face upcoming Melges World League season".

The third step of the podium is currently occupied by Giangiacomo Serena di Lapigio's G-Spot (5-1-3, 11 pt.), that detaches the fourth in the standings, Vitamina (4-7-2, 19 pts.) by Andrea Lacorte, by 8 points.

Great performance today also for Dumbovit by Flavio Campana and Alessandro Lotto who, in their second season in the Melges 32 Class, always cross the top of the standings, closing the three regattas in third, fourth and fifth place respectively, closing the top-five after six races (20 pts.).

In the Corinthian division, Homanit continues to set the pace (7-6-9, 29 pt.), leaving Farfallina (8-8-6, 38 pt.) and Skadi (9-9-8, 40 pt.) behind.

The regattas will resume tomorrow at 8.30 and up to two races can be completed.

Results and communications to participants are posted on the virtual notice board here.
