Scaramouche Sailing Trust - When we can, we will

On the water activities for the Scaramouche Sailing Trust are currently on hold, but the learning, boat maintenance and shoreside coaching continues.
Sailing is used by the Trust to build resilience, confidence, and a new level of aspiration in the students. Current restrictions imposed by COVID-19 add additional barriers, yet stopping all activities is not an option. When we can, we will get back on the water as sailing is a lifeline for many of our students.
With the help and encouragement of Paul Bew of City Sailing our training has taken to Zoom and online courses. Practical courses and qualifications will follow once restrictions are lifted.
To date, our students have achieved the following:
- 12 students completed their RYA VHF course
- 8 students have passed their RYA Day Skipper Theory
- 4 students have passed their RYA Essential Navigation and Seamanship Course
"Paul Bew from City Sailing has been incredible," comments Jon Holt Founder of the Scaramouche Sailing Trust. "All teaching has been on Zoom with students whose parents are key workers taking part from school, along with others logging in from home. Everyone involved is learning. We have had 100% turnout at every session. The commitment from everyone is just fantastic."
When we can, we will' is their current motto. The Scaramouche Sailing Trust is poised and ready to go sailing, but only when restrictions are lifted, and it is safe to do so. Scaramouche is missing the crew, and the crew are certainly missing Scaramouche.
