The evening of Sunday 6th August saw the RORC fleet of 21 yachts assembled at the RYS start line for the 2006 Cowes to La Rochelle Race. A race of some 450 miles took the fleet out through the Needles, before leaving 5 marks to port and arriving in La Rochelle. The fleet included a good entry of J-Boats with three crewed J109s and one double-handed J105.

The J105 Slingshot (Shaun Murphy) finished on 9 August at 18:55:00 after 2 days 23 hours and 55 minutes to win the 2-handed division, and IRC 2 and IRC Overall. The J105 has once again demonstrated its excellence offshore and next week, 17-19 August will see nine J105s racing one-design at J-Cup, at Royal Southern Yacht Club in Hamble.
