Sometimes it's further than it feels
and often closer than it looks.
Battered nerves and thoughts of steel.
There's no quiver in these voices.

Caution to the wind,
can't hear the murmurs in the distance.
What's a warning to a king that sails with purpose and conviction.
Now it's just me against the goaded sea.
No team to talk through tactics, I play boatswain, ship-boy, both mates I'm by far the only captain.

I persist. I float through liquid trenches.
There are no borders to this solitude,
I've hoarded my unrest. Couldn't turn back if I wanted too and the further that I get? I see exactly why I did this. I know exactly why I'm here.
