Pilkington Sailing Club closes its doors, members join forces with Wigan and St Helens Sailing Club

On 31st March 2020 Pilkington Sailing Club closed after sixty years of sailing at Eccleston Mere. Many members have from 1st April 2020 joined Wigan and St Helens Sailing Club, formerly known as Wigan Sailing Club. The renamed club will continue many of the traditions of both previous clubs.

Wigan and St Helens Sailing Club (or WiSH SC) offers a full sailing programme of racing and leisure sailing as well as a summer-long beginners' course.

Bacon butties, chicken curry, wall-to-wall sunshine... Whilst much of the country was suffering from torrential rain, floods and little wind, the oasis that is Wigan SC welcomed Enterprise sailors from the NW with wall to wall sunshine and a breeze that rose gradually through the day. Racing on Scotchmans Flash 10 boats mostly visitors arrived at Scotchmans Flash near to the heart of Wigan. The heat from the sun was extreme but enjoyed by all. The OD briefed us on the following races and we soon set sail. Posted on 30 May 2010
