Clinkerfest postponed to 2021

We note with regret that the Lough Ree Yacht Club 250th centenary regatta is to be postponed until 2021 for reasons of the Coronavirus.
The International 12 foot Dinghy Class in Ireland class was brought into Ireland in the 1920s. Our Dublin Owners quickly learned that it was very tricky to compete in regattas in the south of Ireland. What was necessary was to put a dinghy on a flatbed railway carriage and tie it down about two weeks before the regatta, wait for the railway company to collect the flatbed, take another train to your destination, and remove the dinghy from its flatbed. They quickly found that this was a very expensive operation. Thus the 12 foot owners never took their boats to continental regattas until now.
There were many Dutch, Canadian and Uganda and other international entries for Clinkerfest, making it the first international regatta for International 12 foot dinghies in Ireland ever. Let's hope all can still make it to the event on 5th - 7th June 2021.
