The RYA has today announced the launch of its new RYA eSailing Spring Club Championship. Over the last couple of weeks hundreds of RYA affiliated clubs have signed up for a Virtual Regatta eSailing VIP pass and have been running their own eSailing club events.

With the racing proving extremely popular the RYA has decided to introduce the RYA eSailing Spring Club Championship that will allow all competitors the chance to compete for the title of not only RYA eSailing Regional Spring Club Champion but also RYA eSailing Spring Club National Champion.

"We've been receiving lots of amazing feedback from clubs up and down the country about how great eSailing has been for the club while we are all on lockdown. As a result the idea for the RYA eSailing Spring Club Championship was born and we are all really excited to see the championship unfold over the coming months" commented Alistair Dickson, RYA Director of Sport Development.

The Championship will consist of Club, Regional and National Championship events.

Clubs will run their own Club Championships, with a maximum of 20 competitors per race which will need to be completed by 30 April 2020. If Clubs receive more than 20 entries, the RYA will be providing guidance on how clubs can allow all competitors to compete using qualifying rounds and finals.

The Club Champion will then move forward to compete in the Regional Championship which will be held on the week commencing the 17 May. After which the Regional Championship winners will then go on to race in the National Final which will take place on 30 May.

"We know that a lot of sailors are extremely competitive so I'm sure we will see some very exciting online racing from everyone taking part and everyone will be practising like crazy in the hope of claiming the title of RYA eSailing Spring Club National Champion, not only for themselves but on behalf of their club", Alistair added.

The championship is free to enter and Clubs will need to register to take part by 10 April 2020. For full details and to access the eSailing Spring Club Championship entry form visit www.rya.org.uk/go/esailing and click on the red RYA eSailing Spring Club Championship box at the top of the page.
