Building a Wharram Tiki 26 catamaran for cruising in Belize

Building a Wharram Tiki 26 catamaran - early stages on the hulls © Don Squier

Don Squier contacted Sail-World from Belize to tell us about the catamaran he is building. It is shaping up to be a stunning craft.

I've retired to a bay in Northern Belize and pursuing the dream of half a lifetime: to enjoy explorations in a cruising sailboat.

My sailing adventures started with racing a Hobie 16, a boat that is better suited to younger persons. I'm now over two years into building a Wharram Tiki 26. I perceive the boat as very spacious given my sailing origins, but know that days aboard will be very much like camping out.

The Belize barrier reef, North/South coastline, and prevailing East winds should make for swift passages as I cut my teeth on coastal cruising. The three nearby atolls should also prove interesting as I gain more experience.

Please enjoy my build blog: squierofcorozal.blogspot.com

Sail-World looks forward to the day Don's craft is launched and his dream is realised. We think the high quality finish will turn heads wherever she goes. Remember we want to hear YOUR stories of boat repairs, renovations and invention too.
