Lymington Town Sailing Club Early Points Race 2

by John Martin 10 Mar 2020 12:16 GMT 8 March 2020

After four Sundays blown away with Ciara, Denis and Jorge, the forecast for this Sunday was a race officer's nightmare, on the margins of being just possible and there being potentiality rain squalls.

With a strong rib safety team, beautiful sunshine and a fairly steady 22 knots of breeze a short course was set from the Club line using "Oakhaven Mark" and "Baverstock". This to get in a race while getting sailors home before conditions deteriorated.

Geoff Havers and Abby Keightley-Hanson in the 29er took both line honours and first place in Class 1, with Giles Chipperfield close behind in the D1. Richard Russell in the Taser won classes 2/3 followed by Ryan and Hannah Buchannan in their Scorpion. Scorpions also finished 3rd and 4th and were the largest dinghy class on the day.

Fortunately for all, apart from two Scorpions who went out after the race to enjoy the blustery conditions, competitors were back in the dinghy park and packing up before a 40 knot hail storm came through!

Weather permitting, race 3 will be sailed on Sunday 15th March with a 10:30 start from Baverstock.
