RYA Job Opportunity: Chief Instructor, Shorebased

The Royal Yachting Association, based in Hamble, near Southampton, is the national governing body for all forms of recreational, competitive and professional boating. It represents dinghy and yacht racing, motor and sail cruising, RIBs and sportsboats, windsurfing, inland cruising and personal watercraft.

CHIEF INSTRUCTOR, SHOREBASED

  • Salary: £35,000 - £37,000 per annum (dependent upon experience)
  • Permanent, full-time (35 hours per week)
  • Location: Hamble, Southampton

Our aim is to deliver the most successful leisure and small commercial vessel training schemes in the world. With almost 50 years' experience in delivering both practical and shorebased training to more than 250,000 people per year, the RYA is the world leader in this sector.

This exciting new role has been created to support the continued growth and development of the RYA Training schemes globally. The successful applicant will take on responsibility for managing the RYA shorebased training scheme which supports and feeds into the practical training schemes for all types of sail and power boating. You will ensure syllabi and course content remain relevant and accessible to the boating public. You will produce outstanding course work material used by RYA recognised training centres to develop, nurture and test learners. You will work closely with the RYA publications team and the three practical chief instructors to ensure our practical and shorebased training remain integrated and complement each other.

We seek someone from a maritime background with experience in small craft, who also has teaching, coaching or instructing experience. An eye for detail is essential as is the ability to work as part of a close knit team. Flexibility and adaptability are also a must for this role.
