With the new season almost among us it is time to consider getting the boats out and giving them a good looking over before the first event in March.
With the RYA Dinghy Show soon, and Sailing Chandlery attending, why not take the opportunity to upgrade parts and renew fittings. Did you know that Sailing Chandlery is a Laser Performance stockist? If you get your orders in before the Dinghy Show, you may well be able to collect them there, without being left disappointed at the show.
This year sees 17 events across 8 months. With over 150 boats entering last year, I'm hoping that this year will be bigger than last. I am pleased to announce that Sailing Chandlery will once again be sponsoring the series. Furthermore, I have managed to secure two pairs of SunGods sunglasses to go to the overall winners in the Standard and Radial rigs. My thanks goes to them for these unique prizes. Did you know, they offer lifetime guarantees. They also have changeable lenses, making them more eco friendly as you don't have to throw away a set of perfectly good frames. Check them out here, especially if you think you're going to win the series. www.sungod.co?
Last year, Gary Bullock of Maidenhead SC and George Lane of Broxbourne SC took the Standard and Radial titles respectively. With George having gone back to New Zealand, will the likes of Alistair Brown and Edward Brown step up to take the crown for the radial fleet? And will anyone get close to Gary's scoreline of last year?
Needless to say, this circuit isn't just for those that are at the front end of the fleet. It is for juniors looking to progress through the rigs, people that would like to do just one or two events, people that would like to get better at their sailing with some tougher competition, or just to try a different pond for the day. You will find that all the clubs are warm, friendly and accommodating, as well as the fellow competitors, travelling and home sailors.
This year, like the years past, sees us start at Haversham and ends at Burghfield. We have a new club added to the series, Great Moor, as well as a Super Grand Prix at Queen Mary, with the first day of the weekend dedicated to training, with the second day racing. More details will be published on the UKLA website, laser.org.uk, in due course.
