Euromarina Optimist Trophy at Real Club Náutico de Torrevieja - Day 1

by Marta Aguilar 24 Jan 2020 13:36 GMT 23-26 January 2020

The first day of the four planned in the Euromarina Optimist Trophy Torrevieja closed after completing two races for the four groups.

A complicated and long day in Torrevieja where Pablo Tejera (RCN Gran Canaria), sailing in the yellow group, and Lisa Vucetti (SV Barcola Grignano), in the blue fleet, are provisional leaders.

Around 10am the Delta flag was hoisted for all the groups, with a wind forecast of 6-8 knots of intensity, oscillating around 320 degrees, but... At 11.25 hours the change of wind direction led to annullment for the white group, the rest of the groups have completed the first race.

At 13.05 hours a new start could be made with a bearable wind. Not as strong as hoped, it has managed to remain between 4-6 knots.

The Italian and Spanish fleets have marked this start of the race in Torrevieja with eight representatives in the top ten (five Spain and three Italy). The Rocco Wright (HYC, Ireland), blue, is second with scores of 2-1, while third place is Niccolò Pulito (TMV - Italy), yellow, with two second places.

As for the Spanish women, the first overall is Nora García (CN Masnou), who is in tenth place after this first day.

For the second day, Friday 24, three races are planned and it is expected that the wind conditions are going to be better than today.
