AMEL 60 awarded European Yacht of the Year 2020

by AMEL 24 Jan 2020 09:16 GMT

At the BOOT Düsseldorf opening evening the jury for the "European Yacht of the Year" award announced the winners for 2020. This prize rewards the best yachts in five different categories: Family-Cruiser, Performance-Cruiser, Luxury-Cruiser, Multihulls and Special Yachts.

Extract from the press release of the European Yacht of the Year award: "In the Luxury Cruiser category, the Amel 60 triumphed. Its spacious cockpit, almost completely covered by a deckhouse, provides maximum protection against the elements while functioning as a relaxing chill-out zone. Below deck, the high-quality and stylish interior offers three spacious double cabins and a bright, well-laid-out lounge to rival that of a five-star hotel."

AMEL 60 has been awarded European Yacht of the Year 2020 in the Luxury-Cruiser category.

In 2018 her sistership, the AMEL 50, had won this distinction, the most important and the most influential, awarded by a jury of European marine journalists.

With this prize awarded to the new yacht from La Rochelle shipyard, it is the work of an entire team that is rewarded. This is the result of a dynamic cooperation between all of AMEL's departments and the architectural firm Berret-Racoupeau. The AMEL 60 confirms the course taken since the launch of the AMEL 50 with the wind of new ideas blowing on AMEL yachts.

Emmanuel Poujeade, General Manager of Chantiers AMEL: "Building robust, comfortable and easy-to-handle sailing boats was Henri Amel's ethos. He wanted to offer sailing enthusiasts the opportunity of an adventure on all the seas of the world. Our current models have inherited this DNA and perpetuate the AMEL spirit in lines and design adapted to the navigation modes of our current and future customers.

Amel 50 and Amel 60 were elected "best luxury cruisers". Luxury can have multiple definitions. For us, it is synonymous for the quality of the build and finishings, but also freedom for the owners thanks to our easy to use sailboats. No need for a skipper when you sail with an AMEL. Even if today our customers' travel programs have evolved to coastal navigation for example, AMEL 50 and AMEL 60 offer all the volume and equipment required for a long trip.

AMEL sailboats are entirely built at the La Rochelle shipyard, with attention to detail and 100% French know-how which have characterized our yard for over 50 years. Today, I am very happy for all the team, who are enthusiastically involved in their work and who greatly deserve this recognition through the prize awarded to the AMEL 60."

A new breath doubly awarded by professionals and a confirmed commercial success!

The success of the new AMEL models, the 50 and 60, has exceeded expectations. While the future owners of these yachts hail from different countries and ways of life, they all share the desire to sail and live on beautiful, safe and easy to use sailing yachts. This is exactly what motivates AMEL's teams to work ever harder and to innovate with style. Having decided to keep a production of about twenty units a year, the shipyard today announces a delivery delay of about 12 to 18 months.
