RNLI Hangover Handicap Races at Crosby Sailing Club

by Crosby Sailing Club 13 Jan 08:53 GMT 5 January 2020

Sunday 5th January dawned with light winds against the forecast F3 with F5-6 gusts, four visitors joined eight club boats for the day. Winds coming across the lake from the South west, meant the start line was from the jetty with cross lake beats.

By the first mark Ian Middleton's Laser was in the lead from the Lasers of Chris Orchard, Vinny Charley and Paul Moses. By the end of the race, Ian was three minutes ahead of Chris, and they were both lapping the slower boats.

The second race was a pursuit race with Toppers and Herons leading off. The Heron of Danny Lock led for over 30 minutes before being passed by Adam Wallymahamed in an asymmetrical spinnaker equipped Fusion. He said he could hear the theme tune to Jaws playing in his mind as the Solo of Roy White and Laser of Ian gained on him. Ian passed the Solo, then the Heron, and finally the Fusion with five minutes to the finish. The finishing order was Ian, Roy, Paul Moses in a Laser.

A back-to-back final race saw Ian at the first mark followed by Vinny asking where the next mark was... The wind was building and Lasers were flying off-wind. Ian finished ahead of Vinny and Paul.

Overall four Lasers took the top places followed by Roy's Solo, who had got down an hour late and missed the first race completely.

Bottle prizes sponsored by LWC Wine Importers.
