Catapult Open at Rutland Sailing Club

The latest Catapult Open was fought in a very patchy Force 1.
Stuart Ede took a port tack flyer and went right up the first beat of Race 1 where he found some breeze to take him into the lead. Nigel Harrison’s well timed start put him in second with Bob Moakes and Alastair Forrest in close pursuit. Over the next lap Forrest worked his way up the order to challenge Ede, but he could not catch him. Moakes came third with Harrison fourth.
Approaching the windward mark of Race 2 Moakes and Forrest benefited from a lifting breeze and built up a sizeable lead while the rest of the fleet struggled. Forrest used his better downwind speed to close the gap on Moakes, but again had to content himself with second. Harrison took third.
All depended on Race 3. Forrest got the best start with Ede on his tail and the rest of the fleet close behind. On the last reach Forrest pulled away. Ede struggled up the beat to the line, while the chasing pack found some breeze. Ede tacked too late, and Justin Evans sailed over him to take second. Harrison narrowly failed to pip Ede for third.
