A chilly morning greeted the LTSC dinghy sailors last Sunday, for race 7 of the LTSC Winter Series, with a steady 15kts of wind adding to the chill. With the wind from the north east and flooding tide, the race office Richard Lilley set a down-tide start.

With the race marks off the water for annual maintenance, the RIB support team had to lay movable race marks. A short, multi lap, windward-leeward course was set for the faster Class 1 fleet, with an inshore triangle for the medium class 2 & 3 fleets. The Leeward Mark was laid in the vicinity of Colton with Wing Mark in the vicinity of % (West Inner).

All fleets got off to clean starts. For Class 1 the fleet spread out quite quickly, but the Class 2 & 3 fleets remained in 'clusters' for the whole race. For the medium boats, David and Victoria Lenz maintained a clear lead on the water in their Merlin Rocket but ended tied for first place with the RS Aero 5 of Dave Ellis.

In Class 1 the 29er helmed by William Homewood and crewed by Abby Keightley-Hanson took second, being sandwiched by two D-Ones with Giles Chipperfield first and Paul Davis third. In the Medium Class 2 & 3 fleet it was David and Victoria Lenz who took first with David Ellis second and Ryan and Hannah Buchanan, in their Scorpion, third.

Racing continues this weekend with race 8 of the Series. Dinghy sailing continues throughout the year at Lymington Town Sailing Club, with the Perisher Series every Sunday morning throughout January and February. For details please look at the website www.ltsc.co.uk or contact the office on 01590 674514.
