Platu racing in Thailand during 2020

Pattaya is the epicentre of Platu racing in Asia, conducted under the tender loving care of Kev Scott, Platu Class Coordinator for Thailand.

Pattaya is also very much the home waters of the Platu - it is a Farr design that was commissioned by members of the Royal Varuna Yacht Club in the early 1990s, specifically for the light to moderate breezes of the eastern side of the Gulf of Thailand.

To get involved in some of the closest and most competitive one-design racing in the region, get out your diaries out and make a note of the Platu event dates for 2020.

  • Platu Transworlds 5-8 March 2020
  • Top of the Gulf Regatta 1-6 May 2020
  • Platu Cup 9-12 October 2020 (provisional, tbc)
For further details and NORs, check www.yachtsinthailand.com. If you are interested in a charter boat for Top of the Gulf or the Transworlds, you should contact Kev Scott () sooner rather than later. NOW is good! THB10,000 (USD330) secures a boat, but Kev will also accept provisional bookings at this early stage.

These Platu events are just getting better and better. Every year Scotty listens to what the skippers want, and he and his team work hard to please everyone - with of course the magnificent support and facilities of the Ocean Marina Yacht Club. Pattaya and OMYC are a first class destination and a perfect venue for sailing - a beautiful location, fabulous weather, t-shirt and shorts sailing, a first class hotel, full service marina, and a professionally-maintained fleet of Platus. Heck, what more could you ask for?

The plan for 2020 is to bring in more international crews: hence the introduction of the Platu Cup as an INVITATIONAL event, aiming to attract the best Platu crews in the world. More details to follow soon.
