Lymington Town Sailing Club Solent Circuit - Day 6

The final races of the LTSC Solent Circuit, sponsored by Pennyfarthing Homes, took place on Sunday 17th November. Competitors were greeted with a frustratingly familiar light north easterly breeze, which early on looked to be faltering.

The race committee delayed racing for a short time to see if the wind strength and direction would settle, but soon decided to get proceedings under way with a short windward/leeward course along the shore off Tanners Lane.

All classes demonstrated caution at the starts, as to risk being over the line early would mean a slow return against the strong flood tide. Almost inevitably the wind shifted to the north shortly after the start, making for a one-sided beat and reaches on the downwind legs. With all boats in such close proximity it was impossible to move the course whilst still racing.

With the wind also dying off a little by mid-morning, making for very slow progress on the downwind legs for the smaller boats, the race committee decided to shorten the course for the smaller boats to ensure all competitors could get back to the bar in time for a few drinks and the overall series prize-giving.

Back in the Solent Room at LTSC, Vice Commodore, Tony Evans, presented a cheque for £2,000 to Oakhaven Hospice, the event's official charity.

Prizes were presented for the days racing and the overall series by Jeremy Caldwell, of Caldwells Estate Agents, the days Race Sponsor and long standing supported of LTSC.

Class Winners:

Overall: J80, No Regrets, Chris and Hannah Neve
IRC 1: J105, Jin Tonic, Andy Roberts
IRC 2: Swan 36, Anna Mai, Harry Hutchinson
LAH: Spirit 37, Strega, Sandy Fielding, Matt & Maria Perkins and M Whittle
