It was great to see nine VX Ones converge from all over the country for the Ovington Inlands Championships.

Despite the rain, the race officer did a sterling job in getting 3 race done on the Saturday in a gusty 20 knots. The races were close with places changing with each gust, at the end of the day the Royal Lymington YC team of Tim Knight, Peter Bell & Nathan Batchelor were just on top following by Simon Hawks, Paul Birbeck and Ben Hawkes from Wimbeball SC.

Day 2 was a very different day - ice on the covers, a clear sky and a more moderate 8 - 14 knots. The windward mark was again set close to the shore to get as big as possible race course in - we were glad not to be in a trapeze boat with the size of some of the shifts! The lighter winds brought some different teams to the fore with David & Edmund Clarke from Ullswater YC being prominent and probably would have won 2 races if they could count to 3 laps!

Andy Couch and team made big progress over the weekend and finished 2nd in the final race - a team to watch out for next year! Grafham were excellent hosts and it was a very enjoyable first trip (of many) for the fleet to the club. It was also promising to see 3 new teams along - all having moments of brilliance.

Thanks to Grafham Water SC for putting on a very well run regatta, and Tim Olin for some excellent photos. The 2020 VX One calendar will soon be published - contact Ovington Boats for charter boat information.
