SB20 World Championships 2019 at Hyères - Day 3

by SB20 Class 24 Oct 2019 10:24 BST 20-25 October 2019

At the skippers briefing on Day 3 of the SB20 Worlds 2019, PRO Natalie Peberel announced AP flag over A for the day, suspending all races due to weather conditions.

At that moment 29 knots was registered in the marina with 30-32 blowing in the bay with a tendency to increase. The sea state was also very rough and there is an official warning from the French weather service calling to avoid going to sea. So the fleet was off to take part in social activities like carting and wine tasting!

It was Robin Folin who won the carting competition where French and UK teams decided to spend their no racing day. Others explored the picturesque surrounding of Hyères and the hills as well as visited a winery.

Just before they headed off the Class representatives from SB20 Portugal, SB20 Singapore and SB20 Russia have shared the news and details about the SB20 Worlds – 2020, SB20 Worlds – 2021 and SB20 Europeans – 2021 which will happen in their respective countries!

You can already book your calendars for:

  • SB20 Worlds 2020 – Clube Naval de Cascais, Portugal: 31 Aug – 05 Sept
  • SB20 Worlds 2021 – One15 Marina, Singapore: 01-06 Feb 2021
  • SB20 Europeans 2021 – St. Petersburg, Russia: mid June (dates TBC)
Moreover Paolo Trevisan, the Italian Class president from Marina di Pisa – one of the new SB20 destinations in Europe – shared the news of organizing an Open Italian Nationals 2020 in Lake Garda. Great news!

One of the other news for many, but already known within the Class was that Ed Russo will leave his position of the SB20 Class Chairman and hand it over to Jerry Dowling from SB20 Ireland after the end of the World Championship here in Hyères.

Taking the opportunity of having them present at the event in Hyères, we made a small video interview with both:
