America's Cup: Emirates Team NZ has a trying day

Emirates Team New Zealand was out on the Hauraki Gulf again Saturday, her first sail after blowing up the Code Zero tack earlier in the week.

From shore reports there seemed to be a few issues which were largely resolved by the end of the day, when Te Aihe did one run (that Sail-World's camera caught), which looked very good from the shore.

It included what would pass for a foiling gybe closer to shore, with the bustle maybe briefly coming into play. Further out at the bottom of the run she gybed again - well clear of the water.

The images show that the AC75 is not as unstable at low speed as many expected based on the prototypes sailed by three of the teams. She was observed to lift onto her foils very quickly in a seamless transition and sails a lot more readily than most critics claimed. Te Aihe now looks very similar in sailing characteristics to the AC50, when the 2017 America's Cup Challenger was sailing in Auckland

We are still testing a new camera set up, and the quality of these images taken from ashore are not quite there yet. These shots are mostly full frame (minimal cropping) study shots.
