The IODA Asian & Oceanian Worlds 2019 wrapped up yesterday, with Panwa Boonnak (THA) scooping the Overall title on 14 points from 10 races. It was a dominating performance – there was only one race in which he was not on the podium, and that was a 4th place. This young man is going to need a bigger trophy cabinet shortly – he has collected two Thailand Nationals, two Asian & Oceanian titles, and a third in last year’s Worlds. Watch this space.
The rest of the Thai team did exceptionally well too – winning the Team Racing event of the championship, and taking 2nd, 4th and 5th on the individual podium.
Hong Kong’s Julia Jacobsen took the gold at the top of the Girls’ division – the first time Hong Kong has made it to the podium in an international IODA event, and Jacobsen’s last Optimist regatta!
