Sailors from seven nations will take on the inaugural EUROSAF Mixed Offshore European Championship, sailing from Venice to Trieste.

Racing on the L30, the 30-foot one design monohull selected for World Sailing's Offshore World Championships in 2020, the competition is scheduled to run from 8-11 October 2019.

An In-Port Race will open the competition in front of San Marco square on 8 October. The Offshore Race will commence on 9 October with two nights at sea scheduled before the race finish in Trieste on 11 October.

L30 boats have been available for teams to charter in the lead up to the Championship with many teams also participating in the Nastro Rosa series in Genoa to prepare. A boat draw will decide the allocation of spots ahead of the Championship and provided to teams on 6 October.

The fleet will feature several Paris 2024 and Offshore World Championship hopefuls including Hannah Diamond, who spoke on the Sailing Uncovered Podcast about offshore sailing in the Olympic Games. Listen here.

The race finish will coincide with the Barcolana festival with trophies and medals to be awarded in Trieste's main square on 12 October.

Riccardo Simoneschi from the Organising Authority commented, "After the Nastro Rosa Warm Up event, held in Genoa during the Boat Show, where I also sailed the race to make a direct experience, we are very happy to support EUROSAF, FIV, Yacht Club Venezia, Società Velica di Barcola e Grignano, for this event that represent the "world premiere" for the new Olympic discipline. The interest during the Genoa Boat Show has been very high and we expect more for next week."
