Wayfarer Open at Swarkestone Sailing Club - Preview

by Tim Townsend 4 Oct 2019 06:04 BST 5-6 October 2019

This weekend Swarkestone SC, due south of Derby, hosts round 7 of the Craftinsure sponsored Wayfarer National Circuit and Travellers Series.

Following a few fallow weeks after the excitement of the International Championships in Ireland, battle will resume as Swarkestone Lakes provide a real challenge of islands, beaches, shifty winds and tree lined cul de sacs. You might think this heady mix might favour the locals and there is some truth in that although last year’s open meeting eventually saw the cream on top and close racing is expected again this year.

One or two of the regular travellers will be missing this year because of other commitments or hors de combat, but others will fill their places and a good weekend of sailing is expected with winds forecast to be 8-18mph.

Aside from the sailing, the air on Saturday evening will be filled with the sounds of sailors enjoying themselves with a meal in the clubhouse, free beer and live music before retiring to their tents and wheeled hotels. More details can be found at wayfarer.org.uk
