The final round of the 2019 Jubilee Shield series for International One Meter RC Yachts was held at Ripon SC on Friday 20th September.

Five clubs from the Yorkshire area took part in the 3 boat team racing series, Askern RSC, Bridlington MBS, Keighley & District MES, Ripon SC and Scarborough MYC. Each club hosted one round of the series with the final round and prize giving being held at RSC.

The original intention of the series was to bring helms from the regions clubs together for a day of RC yacht racing in a competitive but friendly series, this was certainly the case at Ripon where the 15 skippers enjoyed a great days racing with a decent breeze that built during the day accompanied by brilliant sunshine, a "champagne sailing day" as the saying goes.

A selection of well know expert helms including Neil Thornton and John Tushingham ensured that the racing was well behaved and very competitive, all run under the watchful eyes of Norman Rowley who kindly stepped in as PRO for the day.

Although not true team racing the event is run as a series of races with each member of the teams score being added together to provide an overall team score, the team with the lowest combined score for the day wins the day, team scores are tabulated for the series to produce a winning club for the series. Prizes are also awarded for the top helm from each club for the days racing so there is a lot to keep track of both across the series and for each event of the series.

Individual results for the day were:

1st John Tushingham Keighley
2nd Neil Thornton Scarborough
3rd David Darwell Askern

Team results for the day were:

1st Scarborough
2nd Keighley
3rd Ripon
4th Askern
5th Bridlington

Series Overall Results:

1st Scarborough
2nd Keighley
3rd Askern
4th Ripon
5th Bridlington
