The tenth Event in the Hansa National Traveller Trophy Series was hosted by Frensham Pond Sailability on Wednesday 18th September 2019. The event was well attended with 24 boats and 31 sailors taking part in the four-race programme. Sailors came from far and wide including Jessica Campbell who travelled all the way down from South West Scotland.

The day started with frost and a thick mist on the pond but this soon dissipated to give a bright and sunny day with variable winds, mainly from the north east but with occasionally northerly gusts. This gave the Race Officer the opportunity to set a triangular course with a long first beat up to the north-east corner of Frensham Pond.

Racing was tight, especially in the Liberty fleet with three different winners for the four races. Positions changed frequently as the winds strengthened, only to die down again, as the seven boat fleet raced around the pond. The final result, taking into account one discard, was David Durston (Whitefriars) first, Mike Everitt (FPS) second and Paul Phillips (FPS) third.

The 2.3 fleet of three boats also saw positions change as they went around the course. All three boats represented FPS with Judith Riggs first, Lara Sturgis second, and Owen Munford in his first TT, third. Judith also won the Waverley Cup which is presented to the first FPS sailor in the 2.3 fleet at the Frensham TT.

Seven boats in the 303 single person fleet saw three separate winners for the four races, including Jessica Campbell from South West Scotland who won two of them. There was stiff competition within the fleet but the final result is Jessica Campbell first, Margaret Foreman (FPS) second and Dennis Hantman (FPS) third in his first TT.

Natalia and Alan Hillman (RYA) dominated the 303 two person fleet, winning all four races with ease. Second place went to Peter and Peta Etherton (FPS), and third place to Andy Sheath and Kate Lintott who were representing Frensham Pond.

The Ben Ainslie Trophy for the top team of the season was presented to Frensham Pond Sailability for their success throughout 2019. The sailors who contributed to this success included Lindsay Burns (2.3), Mike Everitt (303 one person) and Tessa Watkiss (Liberty).

The day was a great success with perfect weather and an army of volunteers from Frensham Pond Sailability. A big thank you to everyone who helped to make the event such a success including the galley team, the Race Officer and his team, and all those on the jetties and in the safety boats.
