Catapult Open at Bala Cat Club

by Stuart Ede 28 Jun 2006 15:06 BST 25 June 2006

Catapult Chairman Stuart Ede proudly presented first prize to son Gareth at Gareth’s first TT event on 25 June. Gareth won all three races in the 10 boat fleet that competed in Force 2 breezes.

In Race One Gareth overtook leader Stuart towards the end of Lap One. Then downwind in Lap Two the breeze filled from behind, and Paul Ellis and Bob Moakes passed Stuart. Gareth held on up the final beat to win from Paul and Bob.

Early leaders Stuart and Dave Jennings were caught by the fleet downwind in Race Two, and they were all closely bunched at the leeward mark. Gareth, Paul and George Evans were able to tack away into clear air and held these positions to the line.

A melee at the windward mark in Race Three let Gareth get away chased by Paul. Downwind these two languished in a hole, while the rest of the fleet caught up. However, Gareth emerged first and led the way to the finish followed by Paul and George.

George’s third overall gave him his first podium place, and Paul added his second place to his fleet win in the Cat Club’s Enduro long distance race the day before.
