Hadron H2 National Championship at Arun Yacht Club - Day 2

by Keith Callaghan 8 Sep 2019 12:21 BST 6-8 September 2019

The second day of the Hadron H2 National Championships at Arun YC was sailed in near ideal conditions, in a shifty 8-12 knot offshore breeze.

Three races were scheduled for the day but PRO Dougal Henshall was faced with the challenge of adding an extra race because only one race had been sailed in the rough conditions of the previous day. The race team succeeded in this, getting four races done in four hours.

Racing for the competitors was extremely close with half a dozen of the contenders taking the lead at one time or another. Ian Dawson, Dick Holden, Simon Hipkin, Doug Powell and Richard Leftley were all in contention but at the end of the day it was two helms that had come to the fore: Ian Sanderson and Jack Holden. Jack had a poor first race but found his accelerator after that and scored 3, 1, 1.

Ian won the first two races but Jack pushed him back to 2nd in races 3 and 4. With one discard, the leading pair have 6 points each. In third place is Doug Powell with 4,2,2,3 and Richard Leftley is fourth with 2,3,3,4.

Two races are scheduled for Sunday and with lighter winds forecast it looks as though the event will go to the wire.
