Eleven Nordic Folkboats started the Saturday Points Race 10 to the impressive backdrop of nearly 400 boats in the Rolex Fastnet fleet passing Yarmouth on the strong ebb with a light southerly breeze on their way out of the Solent on their way to the Fastnet Rock.
The Committee Boat start to the east of the Lymington River forced a pin end start to enable boats to clear Jack In the Basket, now a requirement to be passed to seaward.
A fickle breeze meant numerous position changes to the windward mark but Tak mastered the situation to round first with Mistral second and new member of the fleet Fricka in 3rd.
As the fleet then headed on a long leg east into a strong adverse tide crafty Bonnie judged the offset of extra distance against less tide inshore perfectly and managed to pass several boats to round the bottom mark in second place just ahead of Mistral.
There followed a close fetch to one more turning mark in mid Solent and then a tricky cross tide reach to the finish off the RLymYC Platform.
Bonnie defended her narrow lead over Mistral to the finish, but was very nearly passed when Mistral executed a quick gybe almost on the finish line. Barely a second separated the two boats at the finish, with Bonnie scraping in second and Mistral third, but the clear winner for the day was a well sailed Tak.
