GBR Cadet Team at the Cadet World Championship at Kyrinca Morska, Poland - Day 3

by Karl Terkelsen 3 Aug 2019 08:54 BST 28 July - 4 August 2019

Competitors arriving in the dinghy park on the morning of day 3 of the 2019 Cadet Worlds were greeted with a very light breeze coming from the North.

After the daily prize-giving, in which two GBR podium places were presented for Race 4 to Lia Fletcher & Kali Karaskas and for Race 6 to Cally Terkelsen & Pippa Smith, the fleet was prepared for launching.

After an hour of bobbing around and with the wind failing to materialise, the race team signalled a postponement and a return to shore.

After a further wait ashore, racing was finally abandoned for the day - beachside entertainment then began, which mostly involved attempting to throw team coaches into the lake, before the eagerly-awaited opening of the well-established GBR evening which took place in the event marquee. This had been kindly part-sponsored by Stone Sailing Club and was set up as a British pub scene, with competitors and parents from all competing countries enjoying bar snacks of scampi fries and fish n chips with a range of quintessential British drinks (e.g. Pimm's and Gin & Tonic - but not for the kids!) and Britpop music!

A lay-day is set for Friday and after various excursions to different parts of this wonderful part of Poland, racing will re-commence on Saturday for the final 2 days, with 6 more races scheduled.
