Norfolk Punt Club Sunday Series Racing

by Alan Davis 24 Jul 2019 09:07 BST 21 July 2019

A slightly overcast day awaited us with a good West South West wind predominating, but with changeable gusts resulting in boats taking various routes on the beat when heading upwind.

In Series 1 (Combined All comers) the four entrants all Y&BOD finished within 1 and a half minutes of each other with Fil and Simon Daniels first over the line - the crew ialways finishes the race before the helm!

1 Silver Blue (Simon and Fil Daniels)
2 Honeycomb (Watson Family)
3 Small White (Peter and Lizzie Robbins)

Series 2 (Faster Boats) resulted in fourteen boats out in similar conditions to the first race, a course of three beats (when the wind behaved!) saw Simon and Fil Daniels retaining their position to beat the Punts on handicap.

1 YBOD Silver Blue (Simon and Fil Daniels)
2 YBOD Tortoiseshell (The Ollier's)
3 Punt Golden Eye (Dick Roe & Kate Dulieu)

Series 3 (pre-tea) Y&BOD. Similar conditions prevailed with six entries. Peter and Lizzie Robins sailing Small White finishing 6 seconds ahead of Silver Blue.

1 Small White (Peter and Lizzie Robbins)
2 Silver Blue (Simon and Fil Daniels)
3 Honeycomb (Watson Family)

The second start of Fast Boats had six entries (five Punts and one Wayfarer)

1 Prawn (Punt) Bill and Alison Glover
2 Golden Eye (Punt) Dick Roe & Kate Dulieu
3 Extremis (Wayfarer) Martin Mills and Paul

Series 4 (after an excellent tea with Pauline and Keith Copperwheat in charge)

Five entries of three Punts and two Y&BODs. The entrants were treated to a decreasing wind with Max and Louisa Dixey sailing Jackdaw crossing the finish first, but when corrected on handicap Mark and Lenka Luckhurst (just back from the Galapagos where they were up and personal with sea lions!) took the honours.

1 Camberwell Beauty 9 (YBOD) Mark and Lenka Luckhurst
2 Prawn (Punt) Bill and Alison Glover
3 Honeycomb (YBOD) Watson Family

Kyriel Fynn completed the two slower boat races.

Congratulations to all NPC members who took part in the 10K Run Norwich event, raising money for the Nancy Oldfield Trust.
