It was great to see 14 VX Ones assemble at Ullswater YC for the Lord Birkett Memorial Trophy from as far afield as Lymington, Chichester and the Isle of Man. Unfortunately the wind wasn't as impressive: variable in strength and direction all weekend.

Saturday's race was almost the full length of the lake down to Wall Holm near Glenridding and back. The first VX One of David & Charlie Chandler sailing their new boat GBR 300 beat all the other 230 boats back and claimed line honours in just under 3 hours 30 minutes. This is the first time a VX was first on the water, having come close a few times, and a number of boats failed to complete the course in the 6 hour time limit.

The Race Officer was feeling kind on Sunday and set a much shorter course. The first VX One home was Tim Hulse & Tim Emery, justifying their drive up from the South Coast.

Despite the light winds not allowing the VXs to exploit the planing hull shape, five managed to finish in the top twenty overall.

VX One class winner: GBR 189 David Clark & Tom Neilson, Ullswater YC

VX One results (within top 50):

10th Lester Noble & Mark Simpson, Ullswater YC
11th David Chandler & Charles Chandler, Ullswater YC
12th David Clark & Tom Neilson, Ullswater YC
14th Tony Lewis & Andrew Cutting, Ullswater YC
19th Steven King & James Wanless, Ullswater YC
24th Tom Steavenson & Jack Davis, Tynemouth SC
31st Keith Lockey, Paul Adams & Emma Allsop, Ullswater YC
38th John Robson & Samantha Robson, Ullswater YC
43rd Tim Hulse & Tim Emery
50th Anne Noble & Tom Giles, Ullswater YC
