On the 3rd and 4th of August will be the newly-formed Swanage regatta, open to all classes and offering a bit of a twist on the usual sailing regatta format.

On the first day will be three races but each race on a different style of course to avoid the usual repetition of back-to-back racing. Once back on shore, competitors will be handed free beer and cake courtesy of the event partner Kemp Sails. As the evening progresses, there's the BBQ on the beach, all included in the entry fee so no additional charge.

On the Sunday, the first race will be the "3 buoys challenge", followed by a pursuit race.

On top of the normal prizes for overall positions, should a class have more than eight boats there will be additional fleet prizes, and finally the 'Swanage Bay Challenge'. The Swanage Bay Challenge is simple: if any boat manages to win all five races, there's a £100 prize money for the winner. Though with varying courses and race formats, that should prove tricky for any one boat to dominate.

It's going to be a party on the beach with some racing thrown in.

The entry fee for the regatta is only £20 for single-handers, and £25 for double handers. To find out more, please go to www.swanagesailingclub.org.uk where you can find the N.O.R. and details on how to enter.

For any visiting boats, the club and bar will be open on the Friday evening so you can come down earlier, avoid the Saturday morning traffic and have a nice weekend break in a beautiful small seaside town.
