Saturday the 6th July saw the RS Vareo fleet of six boats all head North up onto the top of the Pennines. It was a glorious weekend with sunscreen on the agenda.

Racing kicked off with an early 1130hrs start. The wind was 17 knots and the windward leeward course was set.

Race one saw a boat raft on the start line with Luke Fisher finding clear air heading off and leading from the front followed by Alan Bassett. A wind decrease hit the second race so there was a shake up in the fleet with Nick Crickmore heading up into second from 5th pushing everyone down a spot, but Luke remained in first position.

After a spot of refreshments provided by our event hostess Cheryl Wood the fleet headed out for two more races.

In race three the bronze fleet battle was hotting up with Mike and Paul North batting for fifth place, while the front of the fleet remained the same.

In the last race of the day Cheryl rounded the windward mark first. But this did not last for long with Luke and Nick tracking her down on the downwind leg.

The friendly fleet retired to the bar with a home cooked meal. This was followed by our AGM and more socialising.

The fleet rose for the final day of racing. It was to be a light wind day to test all participants' patience. Alan came through on race five and seven to take two first places away from Luke, showing that patience was the key of the day. This moved Alan up from fourth into second place. When Luke won race six the event results were decided.

A big thank you to all the team at Pennine Sailing Club who made the weekend success. And all you competitors for venturing up to the Pennines for yet another action packed and friendly weekend.

If you missed the action this weekend look-out for one of our next events and come join in. Any ability welcome and plenty of help and advice available.

Results:

Luke Fisher 1st
Alan Bassett 2nd
Nick Crickmore 3rd
Cheryl Wood 4th
Paul North 5th
Mike Dicker 6th
