The Feva contingent from Blackwater Sailing Club cadets were out in force at the 2019 RS Feva National Championships recently. Twelve cadets and their parents made the long trek to South Caernarvonshire Yacht Club at Abersoch on the Llyn Peninsula in North Wales.
Abersoch is well known as a difficult racing venue but despite the RS Feva fleet only being introduced to the club in the 2016 season, the BSC cadets were well prepared and ready for the challenge.
With strong winds forecast, at the beginning of day one, good boat preparation was paramount in readiness for some tough racing. In the event the day brought light winds with little swell and after three races Joey Taylor and Terry Hacker finished in a comfortable seventh place.
The following days brought the predicted strong winds and testing conditions. This suited Taylor and Hacker who, with a lead of 22 points in front of the second boat, were triumphant and crowned National Champions.
Sophie Johnson and Theo Aers finished in ninth place overall to become First Mixed Crew;
Nick Evans and new crew Oscar Cawthorne finished 14th. Marnie Aers and Ellie Shelter and Jemima Cook and Abbie Wallace all sailed brilliantly to get into the Gold Fleet. Ruby Andrews and Sophie Foskett finished seventh in the Silver Fleet.
With all of these excellent results Blackwater Sailing Club came away with the prize for Best Performing Club.
